VAT calculator FAQs

What is the VAT rate in the UAE?+

The standard VAT rate in the UAE is 5%, applied to most goods and services since 1 January 2018. Some supplies are zero-rated (0%) or exempt, such as certain exports, international transport, and residential leases.

How do I add 5% VAT to a price?+

Multiply the net price by 1.05. For example, AED 10,000 + 5% VAT = AED 10,500, of which AED 500 is VAT.

How do I remove VAT from a VAT-inclusive amount?+

Divide the gross amount by 1.05 to get the net, then subtract. For example, AED 10,500 ÷ 1.05 = AED 10,000 net, so the VAT portion is AED 500.

Who must register for VAT in the UAE?+

Registration is mandatory when taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 per year, and voluntary above AED 187,500. Businesses below these thresholds generally cannot register.

Does this calculator file my VAT return?+

No. It is a quick arithmetic aid for adding or extracting 5% VAT. VAT returns involve output and input tax across all supplies, reverse charge, and adjustments — speak to an advisor for filings.
